About the artwork
Howard Hodgkin’s painting is a representation of himself and art dealer and collector John Kasmin sitting under the palm trees of the Calcutta Grand Hotel’s brilliant white courtyard in October 1968. Painted after his return from India in the same year, Hodgkin described the courtyard scene as ‘full of green shutters on the surrounding windows, and palm trees. The floor of the courtyard was occupied by a terrazzo pool in characteristic Indian Hotel sub Art Deco style’. Hodgkin originally included the figures of Kasmin and himself by the pool, before obscuring them with brown paint to contain the intensity of the scene.

I've changed my mind, can I cancel my order?

As custom prints are made to order, unfortunately you can’t cancel your order after production has started (typically within 24 hours). If you get in touch with us within 24 hours, our team will check on the status of your order and do whatever they can to help you out.
