Additional Information

Caragh Thuring has generously produced Island Fever, 2021, a limited edition lithograph print on the occasion of her work being acquired for Tate’s collection of British art.

Island Fever, 2021, is Thuring’s first lithograph print and features many of the motifs that occur in her paintings, including a silhouette of a submarine, a brick wall pattern and, most prominently, an erupting volcano. Thuring recalls drawing volcanoes in primary school and returned to them for the first painting she made at the start of her studio practice. Thuring has since painted numerous views of volcanoes, thoughtfully exploring their symbolic, mythical and natural power. She explains “I’ve always been fascinated by their subterranean mystery, and the fact that they destroy themselves as well as build themselves from underneath”.

Each print is signed and numbered by the artist and comes unframed.

Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Caragh Thuring (b. 1972, Brussels, Belgium) works primarily with painting, combining abstract and figurative motifs, with special attention to compositional elements. Thuring spends time doing visual research before beginning her paintings. She paints swiftly and intuitively, isolating symbols and patterns and arranging their forms in a manner that changes accepted perceptions of space and place.

Her work is included in the forthcoming group exhibition Mixing It Up: Painting Today, Hayward Gallery, London, England, 2021; and the current group exhibition Masterpieces in Miniature: The 2021 Model Art Gallery, Pallant House Gallery, Chichester, England, 2021. Recent solo exhibitions include Luisa Strina Gallery, Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2019; Corbett vs Dempsey, Chicago IL, 2019; and Thomas Dane Gallery, Naples, Italy, 2019. Her work is held in public collections including Arts Council Collection, England; Government Art Collection, England; and Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo NY. She lives and works in London, England and Argyll, Scotland.
