Cezanne inspired napkins

Only available at Tate, this set of two organic cotton table napkins feature an original pattern is designed in-house by Kataleen Webb, referencing an element of Paul Cezanne’s Still Life with Apples, 1893-4.

The original painting shows apples gently tumbling from a white bowl, onto a table with several other objects carefully arranged. A blue patterned textile (the inspiration for our napkins) occupies the bottom left part of the painting, its folds exquisitely rendered by Cezanne’s meticulous brushwork.

Sustainably made in the UK from organic cotton, the napkins can be washed at 30 degrees. The set of 2 napkins and their matching table runner are a specially created part of our collection of prints, stationery, homeware, clothing and gifts celebrating Tate Modern’s 2022 Cezanne exhibition.

About the designer

Kataleen Webb is a multi-disciplinary textile artist and designer, whose work draws inspiration from her fascination with art, art history and her Indigenous Canadian James Bay Cree cultural background.

About the artist

Paul Cezanne (1839 – 1906) was a French artist who played a pivotal role in the development of modern art. As a Post-Impressionist painter, he developed his own characteristic style, with exploratory brushstrokes and close study of his subjects, painting still lifes, landscapes and portraits. In 1924, Tate became the first public museum in the United Kingdom to acquire Cezanne’s paintings, and they remain an important part of the collection.
