Corner Bar large black satin ash bench

A deep, black satin varnish finishes this long, narrow bench with curved edges. Made from naturally felled ash, sourced and handcrafted in London, in a colour exclusively available from Tate, the 4-seater bench is stamped underneath with the GPS location of the individual tree it was made from.

Visitors to Tate Modern’s The Corner café bar will have seen the bench and its partner, the large black satin ash table, in our seating areas. The benches, tables and stools are all made by Goldfinger in their North Kensington studio workshop. The Corner cafe collection was collaboratively designed by Goldfinger, Tate, and Holland Harvey.

An award-winning social enterprise, Goldfinger are a team of high-end design and craftspeople working with salvaged and sustainable materials, including wood from trees that have been felled due to disease, urban development, or have naturally fallen in London and the surrounding areas. They estimate that 5000 trees a year are felled in this way in London alone, and Goldfinger put them to good use. From this wood, they use traditional joinery techniques and skills to make quality furniture designed to last a lifetime.

The bench is 180 cm long, 35 cm wide and 45 cm high, designed to comfortably seat four people.

Please be aware that as each bench is made to order, we regret that we are unable to offer refunds or cancellations after production has begun, unless the item is faulty.

The bench is a solid piece of quality furniture, making it a large and heavy item that cannot be dismantled for delivery. You are responsible for making sure that the piece that you’ve ordered will fit into your property and the room you intend to use it in upon delivery. If you would like help ensuring this, an access check can be provided for an extra fee of £80, which will be deducted from the cost of your item should you decide to proceed with an order. An access inspector will attend your property and make sure that the measurements of your entrances, corridors, doorways and stairs are compatible with delivery and installation of your table, so you can order with confidence. Delivery is via a professional white-glove courier service at a cost of £150, who will assist you in all aspects of the delivery and installation of your new piece of furniture. Currently delivery is available for UK orders only.
