Additional Information

Fergus Greer has generously produced Leigh Bowery, Session II, Look 10, 1989, 2025, a limited edition artwork to coincide with the exhibition Leigh Bowery! at Tate Modern, 27 February – 31 August 2025.

Greer felt an immediate affinity with Leigh Bowery when he met him after watching his performance at Anthony d’Offay Gallery, London, in 1988. Shortly after, Greer and Bowery began an artistic collaboration which lasted six productive years, until Bowery’s untimely death in 1994. Bowery visited Greer’s studio when he had a new look to be photographed. The resulting images are a lasting monument to Bowery’s creations. ‘Leigh used to rip up and re-make his costumes,’ Greer explains, ‘so photography was really key to preserving his looks.’ Leigh Bowery, Session II, Look 10, 1989, is one such photograph, taken on a large format camera and part of an extraordinary body of work that was the outcome of their collaboration. ‘Leigh’s legacy, in part, lies in our collaboration, and in the record we produced together of his art. I hope our work captures something of the creative genius of this ebullient, much loved, artist and friend’ says Greer.

Each print is signed and numbered on the front by Fergus Greer. Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Fergus Greer, born in England and brought up in Southern Ireland, studied at St Martin's School of Art, London. He then went to the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and served four years with the Irish Guards. Greer left the army to pursue a career in photography, first working as a photographic assistant with a number of photographers including Richard Avedon and later as studio manager to Terence Donovan. As a freelance photographer, Greer worked for a variety of magazines and regularly shot covers for The Sunday Times Magazine. He collaborated with performance artist Leigh Bowery to produce Leigh Bowery Looks: Photographs 1988-1994  (2001). He moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and photographed for leading American and international magazines as well as continuing to work on personal projects. He became an officially accredited war artist and documented the war in Kosovo. His work can be seen regularly in The Sunday Times Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, GQ and Newsweek.

Leigh Bowery (b. Sunshine, Australia, 1961-1994) was an artist, performer, model, TV personality, club promoter, fashion designer and musician. From his emergence in the nightlife of 1980s London through to his later daring and outrageous performances in galleries, theatres, and the street, Bowery fearlessly forged his own vibrant path. He reimagined clothing and makeup as forms of painting and sculpture, tested the limits of decorum, and celebrated the body as a shape-shifting tool with the power to challenge norms of aesthetics, sexuality and gender. Bowery’s short but extraordinary life left a distinct, undeniable mark on the art world and beyond.
