Grey & pink Tate banner apple leather card holder

This grey Apple leather cardholder features a little piece of Tate exhibition history. Part of our collection made with sustainability in fashion trailblazers BEEN London, the pink detail of the card wallet is made from old Tate exhibition banners.

Although our banners are usually recycled into Stormboard, a plywood-like plastic board, BEEN have reimagined some of our recent banners as materials for this stylish accessories collection. As the material for each wallet is cut from different parts of the banner, each piece will be unique.

The rest of the card holder is made from AppleSkin™, a vegan-friendly alternative to leather. Developed in Italy as a way to repurpose the peel and cores of apples usually discarded during apple juice production, these parts of the apple waste are dried and ground into a powder, that results in a supple, leather-like material that’s hardwearing and versatile. It also has a 79.24% lower carbon footprint than virgin leather.

To make the recycled accessories collection, we partnered with BEEN London, a multi-award winning design studio and accessories brand who make their timeless bags and accessories from discarded materials. By using zero virgin materials, the team behind BEEN London highlight the possibilities of circular design and challenge the way things are made – in this collection alone, a total of 50.67 kg of waste has been rescued from going into landfills. An all-female team based in East London, British Vogue has described them as one of the most innovative companies in the world.
