Once upon a time in Persia, there lived a girl who learned to recognise her reflection, not in a mirror, but in the shape of the stars and the earth around her.
On her wedding day, she sees herself in a mirror for the first time and does not recognise herself. Heartbroken, she runs away, mistakenly believing another bride has taken her place. Her love desperately follows her, trying to persuade her that the reflection she saw was in fact herself. Protesting, the woman must explain to her love that her shape cannot be contained so neatly, for she is the shape of water in the lake, of the sun when it rises and sets, and the moon when full and at crescent.
With striking illustrations by Daniela Tieni, inspired by the rich vivacity of Persian illuminated manuscripts.
Sahar Doustar was born in Tehran in 1985. She studied at the University of Science and Technology of Iran where she graduated in Architecture and Engineering. She also has a Master's Degree in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano, and she is currently attending her two-year specialization in Graphic Design for Illustration at ISIA, in Urbino. Once upon a time in Persia is her first book as an author.
Daniela Tieni was born in Rome in 1982. She graduated in scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. She also has a Masters Degree in Art-therapy from Roma Tre University. Currently, she works as a freelance illustrator for Italian and foreign magazines and publishers. Her work was selected by Ilustrarte Biennial in 2016, 2012, 2014, 2009; by Bologna Children's Book Fair in 2019, 2017 and 2012, and by the American contest 3X3 Magazine No.13. Since 2017 she has been teaching at Idea Academy Illustration Master.

Delivery times
We aim to deliver stocked shop products within:
- UK – 2-3 working days
- International – 2-4 weeks
For made-to-order items, including framed custom prints, furniture, lighting and rugs, we aim to deliver within:
- UK – 1-2 weeks
- International – 2-4 weeks
Please note that some items are dispatched separately if they are made to order (such as coffee, custom prints and custom print clothing, neon lights or furniture). This means that if you order these items alongside other shop products, they won’t all arrive together, and you’ll get several deliveries.
If the delivery time frame for each item has ended and you’re still waiting for something from your order, please get in touch and we’ll investigate for you.
Delivery costs
We currently offer free standard delivery on UK orders over £60. Our other delivery costs are as follows.
For orders under £60:
UK – £5 per order
European Union – £15 per order
Rest of world (including non-EU European countries) – £28 per order
From 13 December 2024, we will be temporarily pausing shipping to the European Union and Northern Ireland, to update our details to comply with new EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). We will restart shipping to the EU and NI as soon as possible, thank you for your patience.

Refunds & returns
If you are not completely happy with your order, you can return any items to us, free of charge within 60 days of purchase, and we will be happy to offer you a full refund, replacement or exchange on any items excluding custom prints, furniture and pierced earrings.
