Recycled leather and pink Tate banner tote bag

This black leather tote bag showcases the art of upcycling, using materials from our very own Tate Liverpool. Crafted from recycled leather, the contrasting inside pocket of the bag is made from an old gallery banner.

Cleverly designed to eliminate waste, one side of the rectangular handbag is made from pebble-textured soft black deadstock leather, with the other side and handles made up of a smooth black recycled leather. Understated, chic details finish the bag, such as pink T-stitching on the handles, with Tate and BEEN signature logos debossed into the leather. Our pink Tate Liverpool banner makes its appearance for the drop pocket, a detail which makes each bag truly unique. As the pockets are cut directly from the banner, the details present on the pocket will vary – some with be pure Tate Liverpool pink, and some may feature aspects of white lettering – but each one will tell its own story of Tate.

To create these upcycled, design-led bags, we’ve partnered with sustainability experts BEEN London, which has helped rescue a total of 50.67 kg of waste from going into landfills with this collection alone. The recycled leather used to make the bag is made from Italian tannery offcuts and trimmings which are diverted from landfill and re-formed using no adhesives, only high pressure water jets. This recycled leather, along with sourced deadstock leathers, diverts waste from landfill and helps to create accessories that’ll last a lifetime. Its carbon footprint is also 60.26% lower than virgin leather.
